  • Tip: Press "Tiles On" and "OEM Chars" to see how the game originally looked!

Rogue presents a fresh challenge every time you play, no matter how long or how often you play.

You don't succeed by memorizing events but only by honing your character's skills.

You must combine magic, weaponry, and determination to gain the Amulet of Yendor and escape the Dungeons of Doom.

Iterate on the original game as much as you like!
But consider these tenants of a true "Rogue"-like:
("Berlin interpretation")
Turn-Based
The world only moves when you move, emphasizing strategy over reflexes
Grid-Based
Movement happens on a uniform grid, allowing for predictability in movement
Procedural Generation
Levels, items, and monster placement are randomized every run
Permadeath
When you die, your save is deleted and you start the next run without any previously collected items or stat changes
Non-Modal
All actions happen on the same screen/mode (e.g., battling happens out in the open vs. separate menus)
Again, you should keep or tweak as much of this as you like.
But I thought you should know the reference point we're starting from!
